Resolution
WHEREAS, the Yellowjacket, an American Social Wasp, is the
cause of public health concerns in the Paauilo Community; and
WHEREAS, this new strain of yellowjacket is domiciled in huge
underground colonies and has caused great discomforts to the residents
of the area; and
WHEREAS, the Vector Control Division of the Department of
Health is aware of the problem and despite manpower constraints,
extermination efforts have been instituted.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County
of Hawaii that it requests the residents of the Paauilo area and any
other area facing this common problem to notify the Vector Control
Division of the Department of Health.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State Department of Health
consider temporary assignment of additional personnel to the Hamakua
district until such time as this problem is alleviated.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Vector Control Division be
commended for their efforts in maintaining a safe environment for
our communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable George R. Ariyoshi,
Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Honorable Yoshito Takamine, State
House of Representatives; Mr. George Yuen, Director, State Department
of Health and the Vector Control Division, Department of Health, State
of Hawaii, Hawaii County.
