WHEREAS, the Second Annual Bob Rapp Memorial Men's Fastpitch Softball
Tournament will be held at the Hoolulu Complex on February 13-I6, 1981,
in memory of Robert "Bob" L. Rapp who passed away on February 170 1979,
while performing during the softball tournament; and
WHEREAS, Bob Rapp, one of Hilo's finest softball pitchers; was an
avid sportsman and an admired competitor who was respected by many who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, prior to his death, Bob Rapp was the main pitcher for the
Puna All Star:'and he made unselfish contributions of his time and
resources to the Anuenue Athletic Club of which he was a member, and
to other organizations; and
WHEREAS, teams from Canada, the mainland United States, Kauai, Maui
and many local teams will be participating in this tournament, with a
probable addition of a team from Japan to memorialize Bob Rapp; and
WHEREAS, the tournament proceeds will go to the athletic scholarship
fund of the University of Hawaii at Hilo in Bob Rapp's name.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII expresses its remembrance to the late Bob Rapp for his contribution
to the sporting world during the Second Annual Bob Rapp Memorial Men's
Fastpitch Softball Tournament to he held at the Hilo Hoolulu Complex on
February 13-16, 1981, and extends our best wishes for a pleasant visit
to the players and supporters from overseas.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to Mrs. Kathy Rapp,
wife of the late Bob Rapp, and to Mr. Gerald Pereira, Chairman of the
Second Annual Bob Rapp Memorial Men's Fastpitch Softball Tournament.
