WHEREAS, the Annual Miss Hawaii Puerto -Rican Contest was
held on August 29, 1981, at the Hilo'Civic Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, crowned as the 1981 "Miss Hawaii -Puerto Rico"
was the charming and 'lovely Miss Michele Bernice Rivera of Pahoa
who, among, other accomplishments', also captured the swimsuit,
evening gown and the Miss Congeniality awards on her.way to the
title; and
. WHEREAS, the contest which featured Five other beauties, was
sponsored by the Big Island Puerto Rican Cultural Association as
part of its 80th Anniversary celebration commemorating the arrival
of the first,Pv3rto Rican immigrants•to Hawaii;. and.
WHEREAS, Miss Rivera.,•'as the Puerto Rican Community's official
greeter, will•be perpetuatin.g'the Aloha Spirit in her travels and
official functions as.the3.reign.ing Miss Hawaii -Puerto Rico for 1981.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUCTL OF. THE COUNTY
