Resolution
WHEREAS, Hale Pohaku Mica -Elevation Facilities Master Plan &
Complex Development Report of October 1980 was submitted in order
to fulfill the requirements -of the Mauna. Kea Conceptual Plan; and
WHEREAS, the existing structures at Hale Pohaku will be
incorporated into the development of the new .facilities; and
WHEREAS, Hale Pohaku, located at an elevation of 9,200 feet,
is the most ideal level for the purpose of acclimatization of
observatory personnel; and
WHEREAS, the selected site for Hale Pohaku preserves the balance
of the delicate Mamane-Naio ecosystem; a-nd-
WHEREAS, the proposed expansion for the State Park will accommo-
date more picnic goers and will serve as an information and
interpretive station; and
WHEREAS, Hale Pohaku Master Plan was a product of the cooperative
efforts of astronomers, naturalists, hunters and recreationalists.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL,OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it supports the Hale Pohaku Master Plan and Report as
being consistent with the Mauna Kea Conceptual Plan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State of Hawaii, Department of
Land & Natural Resources be commended on their comprehensive Master
Plan and coordinative success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of
instructed to remit a copy of this resolution
