Re: Res. 178 County of Hawaii—State of Hawaii Resolution No. 178 ss WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii finds that Kulana Naauao's (the former Tax Office building, TMK: 2-3-05:4) lease will expire in December 1981; and WHEREAS, for the past six years, the Countv has used this facility and has established it as a cultural and arts facility for the County; and WHEREAS, Kulana Naauao is being utilized by a wide spectrum of our population, servicing organizations and activities as our Community Players; Teen 'Theaters; Children's Plays; the Big Island Art Guild; Aquarium Clubs; County Parks and Recreation Activities such as lauhala weaving, ceramics, Hawaiian feather lei making and children's summer fun; the Hospital Auxiliary; Center for Continuing Education and Community Services; dance clubs; the Portuguese Club; and Hui Okinawa; and WHEREAS, this facility also serves as the planning headquarters for the Merrie Monarch. Festival and its Statewide Hawaiian Dance Competition and Extravaganza; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED B" THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it requests that Kulana Naauao be favorably considered by the Department of Land and Natural Resources for a long-term lease or be transferred by Executive Order to the County of Hawaii, thereby enabling and facilitatincT the continuation of diverse cultural and arts activities within the County of Hawaii_ i C BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to Governor George R. Ariyoshi; Mr. Susumu Ono, Chairman and At -Large Member, Department of Land and Natural Resources; Mr. Milton T. Hakoda, Director, Department of Parks and Recreation; and Herbert T.
