HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 180 Draft 01 1998-2000 COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION N0. X80 ~9 A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE DESIGNATION OF ENTERPRISE ZONES ON THE BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII. WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii encourages economic development on the Big Island of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council passed Bill No. 167 enabling the designation of enterprise zones in Hawaii County; and WHEREAS, Bill No. 167 was enacted into Ordinance 94-8 by Mayor Stephen Yamashiro; and WHEREAS, Ordinance 94-8 will be conducive to economic development efforts to generate employment on the Big Island; and WHEREAS, the unemployment rate is 7.3 percent in North Kohala, and an enterprise zone designation would encourage business startups and hiring; and WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is empowered to make enterprise zone designations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that an enterprise zone be established in Hawaii County in the district of North Kohala according to the delineations submitted with this resolution (EXHIBIT "A"), and maps attached hereto (EXHIBIT "B"). BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Mayor of the County of Hawaii and to the Director of the Deparhnent of Research and Development. Then following the Kohala Ditch westerly to its intersection with the western boundary of the Upolu ahupua'a. Following the western boundary of the Upolu ahupua'a to its intersection with the Pacific Ocean; and, easterly along the shoreline to the Forest Reserve boundary at Pololu Valley.
