HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 173 Draft 01 1980-19840 RESOLUTION NO. 173 81L WHEREAS. on Saturday, August $, 1981, the Hawaii Planing Mill (RPM) will be commemorating their sixtieth year doing business on the Island of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, in 1921, Kametaro Fujimoto and Sanzo Kawasaki, bohh building contractors, envisioned the need for a lumber mill and a building supply house, and thus built the first Hawaii Planing_-AtIl facility located on the Hilo bayfront area; and WHEREAS, this was the beginning of six decades of operations which experienced a series of memorable setbacks and new challenges_ which included a military take over during World War II, followed by the 1946 tsunami which completely demolished the trill cauoiing it to be relocated; -'and. finally, -the 1960 tidal wave which again totally razed the operations; and WHEREAS, inspite of these difficult and unfortunate situations,:', the Hawaii. Planing Mill .with strong leadership from the Fujimoto ..':';,' . family, with a dogged determination to survive and the business acumen it gained over the years, managed to •rebound from these . adversitl s to become one of Big island's oldest and stablest construction and hardware firms with major outlets in Hilo and Kona, providing a variety of specialty construction services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in recognition of this milestone of achievement in our business community and in conjunction with the advent of their 60th Diamond Anniversary celebration, extends its congratulations ' to the 6ff icers and staff of the Hawaii Planing Mill and wishes them continued and eternal success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to Robe'tt M. Fujimato,• President of the Hawaii Planing Mill.
