WHEREAS, Robert M. Fujimoto, a successful businessman and a
respected community leader, was recently elected as Chairman of
the University of Hawaii Board of Regents a most prestigious -and
Important responsibility; and
WHEREAS, this judicious selection is .deserving as well as
appropriate as Robert Fujitrsnto's credentials and varied community
service involvements will bring to the Board of Regents a proven
leader with a wealth.of knowledge and experience; and
WHEREAS# despite his demanding schedule as President of Hawaii
Planning Mill, Ltd. -,-a suc-cessful Kama'aina establishment,
Robert Fujimoto found the time to serve as President, Campaign
Chairman and Executive Board member of the Hawaii Island United
Fund, Area Two; Trustee ofboth the University of Hawaii Foundation
and the Hilo Boarding School; Director of,the Hilo Junior's Golf
Program; and a former• member. of the Board of Governors of the
Hawaii Preparatory Academy and
WHEREAS, he is noted for his scouting interest, as at the
tender age of 12, he began then advanced in rank f.roTs tenderfoot
to 2nd class to Explbr.er. Scout to Star Scout, he was awarded the
Silver Beaver. Award; -was reclpi.ent �o£ the silver Antelope Award,
the, highest -award bestowed upon anyone on -the Big Island, and has
remained.an active member by: serving on the Board of Directors of
the Aloha Council and on the National Council of the Boy Scouts
of America; and
WHEREAS, in the governmental arena, Robert Fujimoto has been
a member of the State Board of Land and Natural Resources, the
Local Board Ii of the Selective Service System, and the first
Hawaii County Charter Commission; and
WHEREAS, in the business community, he is a Board member of
C_ Brewer and Company, Ltd., Grand Pacific Life , -Insurance Company,
Ltd., Kurohara's Shop for Men and American Secul-'ity Bank; and
WHEREAS, Robert Fujimoto remains involved in our community
affairs being active in the Hilo Interpr.eteres Club, the Japanese
Chamber_ of Commerce and industry of Hawaii, the Hawaii Island
Chamber of Commerce and is -an honorary member of both the Hilo
Notary Club and the, Hilo Jaycees.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in recognition of the high tribute accorded to
ROBERT M. FUJIMOTO upon his election to the esteemed post of
Chairman of. the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, that it
extends congratulations and the best of luck for the challenging
task that is before him and further extends deep appreciation
and mahalo for his selfless contributions for the various sectors
in our community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to .transmit true copies of this Resolution to
Mr.' Robert M. Fujimoto and to Dr. Fujio Matsuda, President of the
University of Hawaii.
