Re solution
REQUEST FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE PROGRAM IN
AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS AT HILO COLLEGE, HAWAII.
WHEREAS, the agriculture industry has long been a stable source of jobs
and revenue in the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii's fertile agricultural assets serve as the
center of agricultural development in our State; and
WHEREAS, a sound educational program is fundamental to the development of
a sophisticated agricultural industry; and
WHEREAS, there are established research stations operating within the County
of Hawaii which serve as a vehicle to improve productivity and efficiency in
agriculture; and
WHEREAS, a program in Tropical Agriculture at the University of Hawaii at
Hilo has been established since 1974, wherein there has been expressed interest
on the island of Hawaii for a Master of Science degree program in agricultural
economics.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
University of Hawaii Board of Regents, the President of the University of Hawaii,
and the Chancellor of the University of Hawaii Hilo Campus are requested to
establish a Master of Science degree program in Agricultural Economics at Hilo
College_
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said parties study the alternative of offering
a Master of Science degree program in agricultural economics in Hilo through the
University of Hawaii at Manoa, similar to the arrangements .for graduate programs
in business administration and education.
BE 11 FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk is hereby directed to forward
copies of this Resolution to the Chairman of the Board of Regents, the President
of the University of Hawaii and the Chancellor of the University of Hawaii, Hilo
Campus.
