WREREAs, U.' S. Senators

In legislation creating the
Study Commission which recently met
WHEREAS, of the eight Commissioners already named, the three
from Hawaii, Chairman Kina' u Boyd Kamali' i, Roger Betts and
Winona Beamer, will provide the Study Commission with qualified
representation from the Hawaiian community; and
W-HEIRZAS, the Commission is mandated to study the culture,
needs and concerns of native Hawaiians and report their fl.ndings
and recommendations to the Senate Committee on Energy and
Natural Resources, of which Senator Matsunaga Is a member; and
WHEREAS, the Commai.sslon' s findings and recommendations will
have a significant impact on the rights and future recogniti.on
of nativa Hawaiians, Hawaiians at heart and residents of.Hawa.ii;
and
WIIEktEAS, the Senators, recognizing the significance of the
Commission, have lobbied with members of the Senate
Appropriations Committee to assure that adequate operating funds
are appropriated to the Commission,
NOW, TUER&EORE, BE IT RESUL'VED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF RA;aAII that it extends its support for the establishment of
the Native Hawaiians Study Commission and requests that the
Senate Appropriations Committee look favorably on their Hawaii
colleaues' request.
BE, IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council express its deep
appreciation and wahalo to Senators Daniel K. Inouye and
Spark 'i. Matsunaga for their initiative In pursuing Federal
assistance in order that the Commission's goals be attained.
'BE IT FURTH&R RLSOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Ronorrable
Daniel K. Inouye anti the Honorable Spark M. Matsunaga, United
States Senators; the Honorable Mark 0. iiatlleld, Chairman of the
Senate Appropriations Committee and the Honorable mina'u 'Boyd
Karnali' i, Chairman of the Native Hawaiians Study Commission.
