WHEREAS, Aloha Week Is beingr, observed beginning October 3rd,
and again this traditional observance will be featuring a
variety of cultural festivities throughout the Big Island; and
WHEREAS$- "Rainbow of Aloha" has been chosen as the theme
with the intent of capturing the spirit of Aloha starting with
the investitura of the Aloha Week Court at Halemaumau Crater to
the culmination of activities at the Royal Sall in Waimea; and
UREREAS, Aloha, Week serves to perpetuate Hawaiian culture,
tradition and custom and is the most popular activity whereby
the Royal. Court, chosen by th Hawaiian community, emerge to
portray the rola of royalty; and
WHEREAS,, Andrew Aka Akau, son of the late Margaret Kamilipua.
Arthur and Apitai Akau, of Waimea and Thelma Lul.uokamakanI
Lindsey, daughter of Thelma Lulu K.ailianu Lindsey and the late
George Mahalopiha Lindsey, also of Waimea, have been named King
and Queen, respectively, of the Aloha Week Court; and
WHEREAS, this honor and distinction which has been bestowed
on them is testimony to their commitment to preserve the culture
and tradition of Rawailans within the County of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE9 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations and bust wishes to
Aloha Week King Akau and Aloha Week [ween Lindsey.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Bid, Island Aloha Week
Commlttea be congratulated for their choices in those named to
the Alotna Week Court and extends best wishes during the
forthco.ning Aloha [,leek festivities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clark of the County of
Hawaii is instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to
Andrew Alta Akau, Thelma Luluoka.makani Lindsey, the Sig Island
Aloha Week Committee and the Waimea Hawaiian Civic Club of -which
Andrew and Thelma are members.
