HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 112 Draft 01 1980-1984County of Hawaii—State of Hawaii Resolution No. 1.12 8,2 WHEREAS, with the recent adoption of Resolution 50, which effectuated a pay plan for the Mayor and the appointed officers of the County of Hawaii, some of the salary inequities between the subordinate civil servants and their bosses, the appointed officials were resolved; and WHEREAS, the salary proposal was a product of months of research and deliberation by a dedicated salary commission, whose main thrust was to correct the compression problem, added a qualification to the plan with a recommendation that upon the settling of the 1981 collective bargaining contracts, it would be necessary for the commission to reconvene and reevaluate the pay plan along with the ramifications if any resulting from the contracts' terms; and WHEREAS, now that most of the collective bargaining units have ratified new agreements, it would be appropriate for the commission to commence with its well-advised review; and at the same time be cognizant of the fact that the salary compression problem while temporarily remedied,istill persists as the major concern ,and must 1 be resolved otherwise this enigma shall recur each time a new collective bargaining agreement is reached. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it concurs with the plan to reconvene the Salary Commission and that it be directed to develop policies, alternatives, or strategies that could be considered by the Hawaii County Council for implementation to permanently cure the compression problem. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit true copies of this resolution to Daniel Hata, Chairman of the Salary Commission; Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi; Russell Okada, Executive Director of the Hawaii Government Employees Association; ME Gary Rodrigues, State Director, United Public workers; Richard Perry, President, Fire Fighters Association, Local 1463; and Gordon Chun, State Director, SHOPO.
