WHEREAS, the 12th Annual Miss Hawaii Filipina Pageant was
successfully concluded on Saturday, May 23, 1981, with the selection
of Miss Yolanda Caabay Bermudez as the 1981 Miss Hawaii-Filipina;
and
WHEREAS, this year's pageant themed "Fiesta" was dedicated `
to and in commemoration of the.75th anniversary of the Filipino
immigration to Hawaii, was jointly sponsored by the Big Island
Filipino Community Council and the State Foundation of Culture and
the Arts; and
WHEREAS* the pageant included six lovely and talented contes-
tants who vied for the prestigious crown of Miss Hawaii-Filipina
and engaged themselves in several phases of competition much to the
delight and entertainment of the appreciative audience; and
WHEREAS, Yolanda Bermudez, a Waiakea High School Senior,
emerged from this colorful, festive and culturally oriented setting,
winning also the Miss Congeniality, the Swimsuit and the Talents
awards on her way as the overall victor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE -COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY'
OF HAWAII that it wishes Yolanda Bermudez best wishes on her
victory as well as her reign as; the new Miss Hawaii-Filipina and
extends her good luck in her quest for additional.recrsgnition when
she participates in the State Miss Filipina Pageant to be held in
Honolulu.
HE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to Mins Yolanda C. Bermudez;'
her father, Mr. Zacarias Bermudez, and her sponsors listed as
follows: Agana Furniture and Music Store; Mr. & Mrs. Takashi Domingo;
Mr. & Mrs. John Bartolome; Mr. & Mrs. Isabela Acorda;•
Mr. & Mrs. Adriano Vicente and Mr. & Mrs. Hilario Cabanting.
