Resolution
WHEREAS, Aloha Airlines has embarked on a "special sales"
round trip fare of $63.63 between the Big Island and Honolulu
commencing May 10 and ending June 30, 1981; and
WHEREAS, the "special sales" fare has prompted
Mayor Herbert Matayoshi to describe it as an opportunity to pull
the State together and an opportunity for Kamaainas to discover
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, unlike previous promotional efforts which focused
on the islands of Maui and Kauai, the new round-trip fare is
exclusively geared to the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, such an innovative approach to marketing places
Aloha Airlines at the forefront, along with United Airlines, in
promoting the Big Island and the Hilo Gateway; and
WHEREAS, with travel to the Big Island down by 11.4 percent
and the hotel occupancy in Hilo and Kona averaging below 50 percent
last year, Aloha's "special sales" fare is indeed a welcomed
opportunity for those in the local travel industry to encourage,
expand and promote a Big Island visitor package of their own.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it expresses its appreciation and mahalo to Aloha
Airlines for taking a leadership role in promoting inter -island
travel to the Big Island_
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council declares its support
of Aloha Airlines' promotional efforts and assures Aloha that the
County of Hawaii is fully committed to the perpetuation and growth
of the Big Island visitor industry_
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this resolution
be transmitted to Mr. Edward Swofford, President of Aloha Airlines,
and to Mr. Al Imoto, Regional Sales Manager.
