WHEREAS, the first Hakalau School had its beginning sometime
in 1864, ttier0' moved" to its permanent and atone familiar present
location, which consisted then of 'a one-half acre of land, a two
room, white -washed school house, and a small cottage for the
teacher, will be celebrating its 100th Centennial Anniversary this
summer; and
WHEREAS, It is eE=timated that during those''years over 5,000
students passed through the portals of this "house of lebrning's
and can bust of alumni residing all over the world, in all walls
of life and involved in medical, legal,'eaucational, political
and vocational pursuits in which some of whom have attained the
status of County, State or National notoriety; and
WHEREAS, some of these individual achievements may be traced
and credit -ed tom their grass roots beginn .ng,a_.?t Hakalau school
{ which can among ether things claim to have had since -1902
conti-nuously programmed some phase of agricultural training for its
student body and more impressively, the students who had to
transfer to Hilo High School at times made up 20 to 40 percent of
i that school's honor roll listing; and
WHEREAS, on this occasion of its 100th Centennial Anniversary
festivitie+a ?rave been planned on August 21, 22, and 23, 1981, to
include a steal fry, a family day and will be culminated by a
banquet/luau in commemoration of this noteworthy event_

Blow, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in recognition of this bench marc celebration that
it extends all alumna of Hakalau School a most enjoyable and
memorable outcome of its planned activities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Cleric of the Cnunty of Hawaii
Is instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to
Richard Unoki, Chairman of the Hakalau School 100th Centennial
Anniversary Committee.
