WHEREAS# the annual Hawaii 4-H Livestock Show and Auction
held on Saturday, June 13, 1981, on the grounds of the Hilo Civic
complex was the culmination of many months of hard work; and
WHEREAS, thirty-nine 4-H'ers and 13 leaders representing the
Pani.ola, Hualalai, Honokaa and Kamuela 4-H Livestock Clubs competed
for the Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, Top Carcass Steer., Junior
Herder and Senior Herder prises; and
WHEREAS, the 4-Hiers, ranging in age from 9 to 19 years, with
financial assistance from the banks, purchase their animals from
various ranches and spend 4 to 8 months caring, grooming, taming,
keeping accurate records of feed consumption and .weight gain to
determine the cast per pound of raising the animal, meeting the
strict requirements set by the 4-H Beef Steer Committee; and
WHEREAS, the Big Island 4-H Livestock Clubs contributes to
the Science of Cicuration and offers to the youngsters leadership
development by encouraging discussion with leaders, advisors,
parents to solving problems that arise in the raising of their
animals, and by participation in club meetings with their peers
following parliamentary procedures.
IOW* THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it commends the members of the Big Island 4-H Live-
stock Clubs and its leaders who have contributed many valuable
hours in making this Annual 4-H Livestock Show anis Aucti.nn possible.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to lir. Jack Greenwell, Chairman
of the 4-H Beef Livestock Committee; Mr. James Miranda, Secretary
and Advisor; Hualalai 4--H'Club; Kamuela Livestock 4-H Club;
Honokaa Livestock 4-H Club; and Paniola Livestock 4-H Club.
