WHEREAS, the Fourth Annual Macadamia Nut Festival will be
held during August 14 - 23, 1981 in Honokaa, the Community where
it all began; and
WHEREAS, since its inception in 1978, the festival has grown
to become one of the biggest attractions on the Big Island for
locals and visitors alike; -sand
WHEREAS, the festival, also popularly known as the "Augustfest",
is held during the month of August to commemorate the start of the
macadamia nut harvesting season; and
WHEREAS, because of the community's strong economic ties and
pioneering efforts in the macadamia nut industry, I-Ionokaa has earned
the honor and right to be recognized as the "Macadamia Nut Capital
of the World"; and
WHEREAS, the phenomenal success of the Augustfest is due
primarily to the efforts of its sponsors, the Macadamians, Inc., and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF -THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it takes this means to extend its fondest Aloha and
best wishes to the members of the Macadamians, Inc'., for their
unique contribution in promoting the Macadamia Nut Industry of
Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the residents of Honokaa be likewise
recognized for their efforts in placing their town on the map as the
Macadamia Nut Capital of the World.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this Resolution be
transmitted to the Macadamians, Inc., Representative Yoshito
Takamine, Hawaiian Holiday Inc., and the Hawaii Macadamia Nut
Producers Association.
