RESOLUTION NO.128 !SJL
WHEREAS, William J. Kimi, Jr., was selected as the Hawaiian
Businessman'. of the Year by the Hawaiian Businessmen's Association.
and was presented the traditional and esteemed O'o Award; and
1.�THEFiEAS, "Uncle Billy", as he is most affectionaliy known, is
the epitome of "Hawaiian Entrepreneuer.ship", as at the tender age
of 16 he first embarked on his business career by selling ice cream
and sandwiches, and eventually delved into such fields as apart Iment
developer., licensed contractor, co-founder of the Touchstone School
which pioneered the one-to-one teaching concept, to his present
successful ownership and operation of the Hilo and Kona Bay Hotel
which has a combined staff of 100 people half of_ which are of
Hawaiian heritage; and '
WHEREAS, besides his established acumen as a businessman,
Mr. Kimi is also well known as an avid collector of antique cars,
paintings, art objects; and
WHEREAS, he has retained over the years his unmistakable
trademark of baggy pants, colorful Aloha Shirt, coconut hat and a
big smile filled with the Aloha Spirit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it adds its commendation and congratulations to
Uncle Billy for this most deserving recognition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to
William J. Kimi, Jr., along with its wishes for continued success
and achievements.
