RESOLUTION NO: 15`7 81
WHEREAS, Leslie Kay Jensen has attained the pinnacle of
women's rodeo competition by winning the 1991 State Miss Rodeo
Hawaii title in events which were recently held at the Panaewa
Equestrian Center; and
WHEREAS, Miss Jensen vied with four other capable contestants
who showcased their horsemanship talents including pole bending,
working cowboy patterns, switching mounts and fielding questions
from a panel of expert. judges; and
WHEREAS, Leslie who is an honor student and will be a senior
this fall at the University of Hawaii. at Hilo, has had an ardent
Interest in horses since childhood and has since developed expertise
in equestrian skills which enables her to teach horsemanship to
young people involved in the 4-H County Extension Program; and
WHEREAS, as thea new Miss Rodeo Hawaii, she has a chance to
represent the State of Hawaii as its entrant to the 26th Annual
Miss Rodeo America Pageant, --,which is to be held in Oklahoma City
December 2 - 7,, 1981; and
WHEREAS, Leslie Jensen who was born and reared in Hilo, will
be needing assistance and sponsors to enable her to successfully
participate at the national pageant, with an opportunity for the
winner to travel about the fifty-two states to promote the sport
of rodeo, an honor which will reflect admirably the versatility
and talents that our youth of the Sig Island possess.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII extend.: its congratulations to Leslie Jensen for being
selected as the 1981 Miss Rodeo Hawaii, and encourages all fans
of the sport of rodeo to rally support to enhance her participation
and success at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
remitted to Leslie Kay Jensen, our 1981 Miss Rodeo Hawaii and
her parents Paul and :Annette Jensen.
