Resolution
REQUESTING A FORMAL BRIEFING AND SUBMISSION OF PROJECTED PLANS FOR THE
POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA.
WHEREAS, the Mauna Kea Plan was created in view of the need to control
all development on the mountain and to resolve the often conflicting demands
of its various users; and
WHEREAS, the Hale Pohaku Master Plan was developed within the policy
framework of the Mauna Kea Plan and should be interwoven with other plans
within this framework; and
WHEREAS, the military's projected plans for the Pohakuloa training area
may directly or indirectly affect the feasibility of any development plans
for Hale Pohaku; and
WHEREAS, the goals, objectives and needs of each of the user groups and
the goals and objectives of Hawaii County's General Plan must be integrated; and
WHEREAS, the County, in order to fulfill its responsibility as coordinator
and manager of all development on this island, must be kept informed of any
military plans which may affect other projects such as the Hale Pohaku development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
the commander of the Pohakuloa Training Facility be requested to submit a plan to
the Council on the military's projected uses of the Pohakuloa area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be trans-
mitted to the Commander of the Pohakuloa Training Facility.
