Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication 496/Reso 228-09, reports as follows:
Communication 496, dated August 17, 2009 from Deputy Corporation Counsel Gerald A.
Takase seeks the Council's approval in accepting a dedication to the County of Hawaii a 2.003
acres parcel in the Honoli`i Place Subdivision at Pauka`a for park purposes.
An attachment to Communication 496, dated March 12, 2009 from BJ Leithead Todd, Planning
Director, states this meets compliance of Condition I in Ordinance 96-121 and supports
acceptance with reservations; recommends that the Department of Parks and Recreation be
consulted.
Mr. Bob Fitzgerald, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation testified before your
committee to express his support, and to state any potential issues with grading and grassing of
this park space have been addressed in meetings between his department personnel and members
of the local community. Mr. Fitzgerald stated his belief in this newly dedicated park space will
be an asset for all.
Council member Dominic Yagong noted this park lies within his Council District 1.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Resolution 228-09 and recommends its adoption.
