Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 135, reports as follows:
Bill 135, transmitted via Communication 493, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated August 14, 2009,
presents a Change of Zone Request by Dr. Virgil Place, applicant, at Kahua and Waika, North Kohala,
Hawaii, covered by Tax Map Key: 5-9-005:004. The property is located along the south side of Ala
Kahua Drive, approximately 2,600 feet east of the Ala Kahua Drive-Akoni Pule Highway intersection.
Bill No. 135 seeks to amend Section 25-8-7 (North and South Kohala Zone Map), Article 8, Chapter 25
(Zoning Code) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition), by changing the District Classification
from Agricultural - 20 Acre (A-20a) to Family-Agricultural - 3 acres (FA 3a) at Kahua and Waika, North
Kohala, Hawaii.
There was no public testimony on the matter. Mr. Greg Mooers appeared on behalf of the
applicant.
Your Committee concurs with the Planning Commission and the Planning Director's favorable
recommendation for approval of the request for change of zoning.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 135 and
recommends it pass first reading.
