In fiscal year 2006, the State of Hawaii appropriated $6 million to develop a potable water source for the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. The County of Hawaii Department of Water Supply (DWS) administered the contracts utilizing these funds. The first contract was to drill and test an exploratory well, and the second one was to design and build the production facilities. The current design and build contract includes a 100,000 gallon reinforced concrete reservoir and 1 standpipe. However, this additional appropriation of $400,000.00 will increase the reservoir size to 300,000 gallons and provide for an additional standpipe for water haulers. These revisions will enhance the current design to allow for future expansion of the water system. Since the project's contract is ready to go, the Department of Public Works is requesting a waiver from the Finance Committee and to have this bill heard at the next Council meeting scheduled for October 7, 2009. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Public Works. F jJ Nancy E.
