HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0488.042 2008-2010Testimony: September 14, 2009 Dominic Yagong, Finance Committee Chair Finance Committee County of Hawaii Dear Chairman and Council Members; My name is Mike Gleason and I am President Elect for the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee. I am here to testify on their behalf concerning bill 132. While we agree with Councilman Yagong that transparency is desirable, we oppose his condition that the new owner must explain there future use of the land. The lands available for sale are all agriculturally zoned. The allowable uses are determined by the .State Land Use designation and HRS Chapter 205 as well as the County Zoning Code. Any changes to the zoning would have to be approved by the State Land Use Commission and the County of Hawaii. We also favor an open auction as Councilman Yagong has proposed verses a sealed bid auction. However, we question whether an auction would bring in the maximum revenue verses the more traditional method of selling real estate with a Realtor. We support the sale of the land to balance the budget, but without any conditions. of disclosure of the buyer's intended use.
