HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 238 Draft 01 1998-2000COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 238 00 RESOLUTION DESIGNATING APRIL AS "AG -TOURISM MONTH". WHEREAS, agriculture and tourism are the two largest contributors to Hawaii County's economy; and WHEREAS, beyond that, agriculture holds the foundation for much of this island's rich physical landscape, history and culture; and WHEREAS, Agriculture -Tourism offers a unique opportunity to weave visitors, as well as our residents not involved with agriculture, together with those who are directly involved with the tropical agriculture industry (i.e. tropical fruit, macadamia nut, coffee, vegetable and flower growers) or indirectly involved (i.e. Hawai`i-grown chefs, rural bed & breakfast proprietors, farm tour operators, fresh market vendors, and landscapers); and WHEREAS, "Ag -Tourism" can enhance the visitor experience, preserve the quality of life for residents, as well as increase the economic sustainability of our agricultural industry. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it hereby designates the month of April as "AG -TOURISM MONTH" in recognition of the value that agriculture and tourism represents to the Island of Hawaii. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, Department of Research and Development, and Kent Fleming, Ph.D., Chairman of the Kona Ag -Tourism Conference at c/o University of Hawaii, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, Kealakekua, Hawaii, 96750-0208.
