Aloha Mayor Kenoi & Council Members,
I am writing in response to Resolution 216.
I am resolutely against the sale of these "public lands"
I understand and respect that you are trying to balance
our budget in tough times. However, selling this
land in a "fire" sale is not the best way to do this.
If you are determined to move forward with this
action, despite the preponderance of public opinion
in opposition, it must be a transparent process.
I am writing in support of Bill 132, proposed by Council Member Dominic Yagong. If
you believe this "fire" sale is the only way to raise the funds needed for the
budget, it is imperative that this process be transparent and that there are
adequate measures to insure a check and balance regarding the sale of these Public
Lands.
When dealing with the sale of Public Lands, the agreement of sale; appraisals; titl
reports and other relevant agreements should be a matter of public record. It is
also crucial that the council has a chance to review the terms of sale prior to the
closing.
In order for a Democracy to work, our public officials must understand that they ar
working for the people. It is essential that we know what our public servants are
doing, in order to decide whether you are actually representing what we want.
Sincerely Mahalo,
Michele Chavez-Pardini
