We are alarmed and very concerned at the rumors that the
county government is engaging in "secret" negotiations with
large land buyers who are interested in getting big bargains on
prime agricultural land on the Hamakua coast.
We respectfully request that each and every one of you elected
officials disavow any secret land negotiations/deals and call for
open public meetings on any plans or proposals being
considered regarding publicly owned lands.
Lastly, it certainly does not make any sense to invite the
various communities on the Island to participate in growing a
vision and design of our future, if large tracts of available land
are sold off to giant factory farming corporations who probably
remain intent on continuing their destruction of the aina with JJ~~QQ

chemicals and poisons. As for the rumor that Mansanto
Corporation is one of the candidates for the Hamakua land, I
can think of no other corporation in the world that has a worse
reputation among the growing army of organic farmers on this
island.
