RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING INCREASE OF SPECIAL COUNSEL CONTRACTS FOR
WILLIAM SILVA, ET AL., V. COUNTY OF HAWAII, ET AL., CIVIL NO. 97-622 (HILO).
WHEREAS, the Office of the Corporation Counsel does not have sufficient funds to compensate special
counsel for current, outstanding invoices for legal services already provided; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council has previously approved funds to pursue an appeal of all
appropriate legal issues resulting from William Silva, et al., v. County of Hawaii, et al., Civil No. 97-622 (Hilo);
and
WHEREAS, the Office of Corporation Counsel also seeks to amend contractual amounts as follows for
legal services with special counsel to begin the appeals process:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it authorizes the funding increase of five hundred forty thousand dollars ($540,000) for special counsel
contracts for William Silva, et al., v. County of Hawaii, et al., Civil No. 97-622 (Hilo).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Office of the Mayor,
the Department of Finance, the Office of the Corporation Counsel, and the County Clerk.
