Re: Hawaii Correctional Industries Lease - 34 Rainbow Drive, Hilo, Hawaii
Old Hilo Hospital
Transmitted herewith for the Council's approval is a resolution authorizing the Director of Finance
to negotiate a Lease Agreement with Hawaii Correctional Industries to use a portion of the Old
Hilo Hospital located at 34 Rainbow Drive.
We are requesting that this resolution be waived to full Council due to time constraints in
accommodating Hawaii Correctional Industries during the closing of the Kulani Correctional
Facility. Thank you for your consideration.

RE: Resolution No. 256-09 A Resolution Authorizing the Director of Finance to
Negotiate a Lease of Real Property, Being a Portion of 34 Rainbow Drive (Old Hilo Hospital
Complex), Situate at Pi`ihonua, District of South Hilo, County and State of Hawaii, and Identified
as Being a Portion of Tax Map Key (3) 2-3-026-008, to Hawaii Correctional Industries.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Finance Committee to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing this
matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and the
matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is
denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Finance Committee
for placement on its future agenda.
