Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 513 and Bill 143, reports as follows:
Bill 143, transmitted by Director of Public Works Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication
No. 513, dated August 25, 2009, amends Chapter 24, article 10, division 1, section 24-254
(schedule 2. 20 mile per hour li?nit), paragraph (g), Puna, of the Hawaii County Code 1983
(2005 Edition, as amended) by repealing and deleting subparagraph (6) as follows, with any
remaining clauses to be appropriately renumbered:
"[(6) ` right Read, in Voleane Village.]"
There was no testimony from the public on this proposed bill.
Traffic Division Chief Ron Thiel appeared before Your Committee. Mr. Thiel commented that this
amendment's purpose is to update the Hawaii County Code to keep it current with existing conditions.
The current posted speed limit on Wright Road is 25 mph, as is reflected in Section 24-255, schedule 3.
Wright Road also incorrectly appears under the 20 mph section.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill 143 and recommends passage at first reading.
