Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 144, reports as follows:
Bill No. 144, transmitted via Communication No. 514 from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated
August 31, 2009, presents a Request for Change of District Classification by Conrad and Joanne
Dakujaku, at Waiakea Houselots, 1st Series, Waiakea, South Hilo, Hawaii, TMK: 2-2-35:34.
Bill No. 144 seeks to change the zoning from Single-Family Residential - 10,000 square feet
(RS-10) to Industrial-Commercial Mixed - 20,000 (MCX-20) for the parcel which is
approximately 22,300 square feet in size. The property is located along the west side of
Kalanikoa Street, approximately 100 feet north of the intersection of Kalanikoa Street and
Hualani Street.
There was no public testimony on the matter. The applicants, Conrad and Joanne Dakuj aku,
appeared before Your Committee. The applicants stated that they intend to build warehouse and
office spaces for small businesses on this vacant property.
Your Committee concurs with the Planning Commission and the Planning Director's favorable
recommendation for approval of the re-zoning request.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 144 and
recommends it pass first reading.
