RESOLUTION NO. 258 09
A RESOLUTION TO RESTORE KAILUA VILLAGE.
WHEREAS, Kailua Village has historically been considered the cultural and economic
center of North Kona; and
WHEREAS, the activity generally associated with the Village has radiated beyond its
perimeter; and,
WHEREAS, the aging Village center is now populated with businesses that are barely
economically viable; and,
WHEREAS, this deterioration of the village center now displays a cultural and social
setting no longer inviting or attractive to the visitor or the resident; and,
WHEREAS, it is now possible to attain funding (private sector/government) for urban
renewable projects; and,
WHEREAS, the Village qualifies for this funding; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HA W AI'I that the
County Council facilitate meetings with the Kailua Village groups and other interested
stakeholders to seek a reconstructive course to revitalize and restore the essence and stature of
the Village; and,

BE IT FIN ALL Y RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward copies of this
resolution to the Honorable Mayor William Kenoi, the Director of the Planning Department, the
Kona CDP Action Committee, the Kailua Village Design Commission, the Kailua Village
Business Improvement District, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, the Daughters of
Hawai'i, the Kona Outdoor Circle, the Big Island Visitors Bureau, and the Community
Enterprises.
