RESOLUTION CREATING SEVEN (7) FIRE FIGHTER POSITIONS FOR NEW
VOLCANO EMS UNIT
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, which funds the
Emergency Medical Services Program, has authorized the start-up of a new advanced
life support (ALS) ambulance in the Volcano area; and
WHEREAS, it has agreed to fund seven (7) fire fighter positions for the new EMS
unit in Volcano; and
WHEREAS, lodging facilities for the personnel are to be provided by the Federal
Government; and
WHEREAS, by creating seven (7) Fire Fighter, SR-17 positions, the new unit can
commence on October 1, 2000; and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that
the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been
made by the council...".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that seven (7) Fire Fighter, SR-17 positions be created.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that $86,400 be transferred from the Basic EMT
Training equipment account (010-221-5227.46) to the Fire Protection Salaries and
Wages account (010-221-5221.01).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
Finance, Fire, and Civil Service Departments.
