As you know the County of Hawai'i Planning Department has initiated the process of forming an Action Committee
for the North Kohala Community Development Plan (NKCDP). The General Plan calls for the formation of Action
Committees, which would be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council.
The removal of one of the Action Committee members necessitated the need to identify and nominate an alternate
who is eager to participate in the COP process as an Action Committee member. We would appreciate your
attention on this matter and are requesting that this item be placed on the November 17, 2009 Planning Committee
,o,genda for discussion and with confirmation of this individual on the December 1, 2009 full Council agenda.
It is my pleasure to nominate Giovanna Gherardi to the Action Committee for NKCDP. Ms. Gherardi is a retired
Nursing and Hospital Administrator and is a six year resident of the North Kohala community. She is currently self-
employed as an Organizational Consultant and has used her unique skill set to help many local groups increase
their organizational capacity. Ms. Gherardi has served as President for the West Hawaii Mediation Center and was
an integral part of the North Kohala COP planning team, serving as facilitation and meeting consultant to the
Project Manager: She is committed to the implementation of the North Kohala COP and sees the Action
Committee's efforts as examples of working collaboratively to accomplish common goals and in the process
developing the leadership capacity of local residents.
