Re: Comm. No. 574/Res 255-09
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 255-09, reports as follows:
Resolution 255-09, transmitted by Council Member Kelly Greenwell, via Communication
No. 574, dated October 8, 2009, requests the County Council to pursue federal funding for the
removal of the old Kona dump.
Environmental Management Director Lono Tyson said while there is $10 million in the CIP
budget for the Kona landfill in fiscal 2011 - 2012, it does not include the clean closure costs,
which he estimates to be approximately $40 million.
Council Member Greenwell said his contacts in Washington D.C. informed him that there is
money available, and the details will be forthcoming.
Your Committee on Finance is in accordance with the purpose and intent of Resolution 255-09,
and recommends its adoption.
