County of Hawaii--State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the availability of water is crucial to the
preservation and development of the urban, rural and commercial
sectors of our Big Island economy; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Honomalino area have never had an
adequate water system, precluding future development and contributing
to substandard living conditions; and
WHEREAS, the drilling of an exploratory well is required in
order to determine the feasibility of providing and developing new
sources of domestic water in the Honomalino area of S. Kona;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby requests the Legislature of the State of
Hawaii to grant to the Department of Water Supply, County of Hawaii,
funds necessary for the drilling, casing;and testing of an exploratory
well in order that the Department of Water Supply of the County of
Hawaii, in cooperation with the Department of Land and Natural
Resources, State of Hawaii, may conduct a study which will provide
the basis for the establishment of an adequate water system for the
Honomalino area of S. Kona.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is hereby
directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable
John A. Burns, Governor; the Honorable David McClung, President
of the Senate; the Honorable Tadao Beppu, Speaker of the House; the
Legislators from the County of Hawaii; Akira Fujimoto, Manager,
Department of Water Supply, County of Hawaii; and Sunao Kido,
Chairman and Member, Board of Land and Natural Resources, State of
Hawaii.
