WHEREAS, at present there are no low-rent housing
projects in the North Kohala District, County of Hawaii;
and
WHEREAS, many families and persons with low incomes,
especially the elderly, have found North Kohala to be a
favorable environment; and
WHEREAS, the shortage of low-rent housing in North
Kohala must be alleviated in order to allow families and
persons in low incomes to continue to enjoy living in their
familiar community surrounds; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the County of Hawaii to
assist in the provision of safe, sanitary, and livable housing
to persons of all ages, income and ethnic groups and to
provide a variety of choice as to location and types,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it does hereby respectfully request
the Hawaii Housing Authority to initiate such steps as may
be necessary in order that low-rent housing units may be
constructed or made available in the North Kohala District,
County of Hawaii, State of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to transmit certified copies of
this resolution to Mr. Yoshio Yanagawa, Executive Director,
Hawaii Housing Authority, State of Hawaii, 1002 N..School
Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813; Mr. Alvin Pang, FHA Director,

Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813; Mr. James H. Price, Area
Director, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Area
Office, 1 Embarcadero Center, Suite 1600, San Francisco,
