RESOLUTION NO.
70
WHEREAS, for the period beginning May 19, 1973, and
ending May 21, 1973,a delegation of officials from the
County of Hawaii composed of Council Chairman Robert M.
Yamada, Councilman Dante K. Caxpenter;and Legislative
Auditor R. B. Legaspi, together with. their wives, visited
Hawaii Countyis sister city of Oshima Island, Japan; and
WHEREAS, during this short but fulfilling visitation,
a busy and to date most memorable eXChange visit ever
between these two cities since its inception of the sister-
ci ty association in January of 1962 was had; and
WHEREAS; through the efforts of many oj; the residents
of the "Camellia Island", especially the personal attention
of its energetic 75 year old Mayor; the Honorable Matsuri
Ishii: Chairman of the Oshima Assembly Asatara Taniguchi:
and Haruyoshi Kamaguchi, President of Oshimaya Co., Ltd.:
an enlightening, touching and meaningful experience was
shared by all participants: and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council as a gesture of
acknowledgement of appreciation and heartfelt gratitude
to all of the people of our sister city of Oshima Island
who were responsible for the generous hospitality, the

memorablerec~ptions, the precious gift of friendship and
an overall tremendous effort by our sister city of Oshima
Island that made the visit one that will be cherished for
years to come;
NOW II THEREFORE i BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE,
COUNTY OF HAWAII that this resolution serVe as an official
invitation to the Mayor and members of' the Oshima Island
Assembly to visit the big Island of Hawaii; whereby the
Oshima Island hospitality which was overwhelming with
sincerity and goodwill can be reciprocated with our tradi-
tional; and hopefully comparable Hawaiian spirit of Aloha.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and
is hereby authorized and directed to transmit true copies
of this resolution to Mayor Ishii, Asatara Taniguchi;
Chairntan of the Assembly and Haruyoshi Kamaguchi II President
of Oshimaya Co.; Ltd.; residents of our beautiful sister
ci ty of Oshima Island, Japan.,
