HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 077 Draft 01 1972-1976 <Q~fI' -~ o o County of Hawaii-State of Hawaii Resolution No. 77 WHEREAS, there is a serious shortage of gasoline and other petroleum products in Hawaii and the nation; and WHEREAS, several oil companies distributing gasoline and such products in Hawaii have imposed a quota on the amount available to Hawaii residents; and WHEREAS, there is no equitable imposition of said quota by the various oil companies of gasoline and gasoline products among the public; and . WHEREAS, a large percentage of the citizens of the County of Hawaii use motor vehicles for basic transportation on the Island of Hawaii, such motor vehicles being fueled and maintained by gasoline and other petroleum products; and WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii has the largest mileage of public streets and highways of any county in the State of Hawaii and the largest fuel consumption per motor vehicle in the State of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, various County industries such as trucking, ground transportation, sugar plantations, U-Drives and taxis, construction, utility companies, and tour and charter boats depend on the ready availability of gasoline and petroleum products; and WHEREAS, the shortage of gasoline and other petroleum products is causing concern about its effect on the economy of the County of Hawaii and may lead to a chaotic inflation of fuel prices; and WHEREAS, there are no adequate controls or regulation over the rising price of gasoline and other gasoline products, / NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, on behalf of the people of the Big Island, that it go on record as being gravely concerned about the rising price of gasoline and the lack of controls for such rises. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii members of the U.S. Congress be and are hereby requested to take immediate action on the national level for relief from the conditions stated herein. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii is hereby authorized and directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, Senator, U. S. Senate; the Honorable Hiram L. Fong, Senator, U.S. Senate; the Honorable Patsy T. Mink, Member of \ ! \: ~ i I I I -- j .. '~~.... o o Congress, u.s. House of Representatives; the Honorable Spark M.
