RESOLUTION NOo

WHEREAS, the Sister City association between Oshima
Island and the County of Hawaii has been rejuvenated and
enriched by recent exchange visitations; and
WHEREAS, beginning July 20 through 22, 1973, the Big
Island, also known as the "Orchid Island", will again be
honored with visitors from our Sister City of Oshima Island,
also known as the "Camellia Island"; and
WHEREAS, ehis delegation will be headed by Deputy Mayor,
the Honorable Saburo Suzuki, and Chairman of the Assembly,
the Honorable Asataro Taniguchi, along with Director of
General Affairs Jujiro Kobayashi, Assemblymen Tamao Shiraki
and Tomoharu Shirai, Councilman Fumio Tsuchiya and 17 other
citizens from Oshima Island; and
WHEREAS, this large contingency of visiting friends
is indicative of the enthusiasm, the spirit and the sincerity
with which Oshima Island regards our Sister City association;
and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii and its people will be
accorded a rare opportunity to hear and see a bit of the
culture of Oshima Island when our guests perform during the
12th Annual International Festival; and
WHEREAS, more importantly, it will help to sustain the
ties of our Sister City in the fostering of cultural inter-
exchange, good will and brotherhood of men, all of which in
essence is our island's most valuable asset -- the Aloha
Spirito
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it welcomes our friends from Oshima
Island and wishes them a pleasant and safe stay here on the
Big Island and for the entire duration of their journey
throughout the State of Hawaiio
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chairman of the Hawaii
County Council be and is hereby directed to present this
