Hawaii Resolution No. 100 WHEREAS, Pan American Airlines, American Airlines and Trans World Airlines received authorization from the Civil Aeronautics Board to serve. Hilo, Hawaii, in 1969 in the Transpacific Route decisions, with Pan American having been granted prior temporary authorization since 1967; and WHEREAS, Pan American Airlines obtained an order from the Civil Aeronautics Board for suspension of service to Hilo effective May 11, 1971, and has made application for further suspension of service; and WHEREAS, American Airlines and Trans World Airlines have never inaugurated service to Hilo, having obtained postponements from the Civil Aeronautics Board; and WHEREAS, additional visitor accommodations in Hilo and other parts of the. Island have been and are being constructed, and the Hawaii Island Visitor Industry Association is presently extensively promoting Hilo and the Island of Hawaii on the mainland to attract tourists; and WHEREAS, such suspension of service and failure to inaugurate service by these airlines is harmful to the tourist industry of the County of Hawaii and not in keeping with their original application to service Hilo and the State of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, the Civil Aeronautics Board has previously recognized that Hilo is necessary as one of two gateways in the Mainland-U.S.-Orient route, that the public convenience and necessity require that Hilo as well as Honolulu need to be serviced in order to provide points of entry and exit near the extremities of the State; and that Hilo is needed as an alternate gateway for dispersing tourist travel within the State; and WHEREAS, a further postponement of service will cause undue hardship to the economy and general welfare of the people of the County of Hawaii, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the CAB be requested to direct Pan American -Airlines, American Airlines and Trans World Airlines to service Hilo or to rescind the Hilo portion of the Transpacific Route permits of Pan American Airlines, American Airlines, and Trans World Airlines. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii is hereby authorized and directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Civil Aeronautics Board, Washington, D.C.; to the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, Senator, U.S. Senate; the Honorable Hiram L. Fong, Senator, U.S. Senate; the Honorable Patsy T. Mink, Member of Congress, U.S. House of Representatives; and the Honorable Spark M.
