County of Hawaii--State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii is charged with a duty
to maintain the health,,welfare and safety of the people of
the County; and
WHEREAS, adequate transportation facilities are recognized
as being essential to the health, welfare and safety of the
people of the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the bicycle has been and is a means of transportation
utilized by an increasing number of citizens; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for investigation and study of
the feasibility of implementation of bicycle paths in various
areas of the County of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Department of Public Works be
directed to conduct a feasibility study for the implementation
of safe bicycle paths of the following types: (1) bicycle paths
within city limits and near schools; (2) bicycle paths from
hotels to scenic and historical sites; and (3) a bicycle path
around the island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Public Works
submit a report of its study to the Council within six months
after the date of this resolution.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
transmitted to the Mayor, County of Hawaii, and to the Departments
of Public Works, Planning, and Research and Development, County of
Hawaii.
