Resolution No. 1.3 2
WHEREAS, inclusive tour charters to the State of
Hawaii are presently required to comply with federal
legislation which requires three stops; and
WHEREAS, there is presently pending in the House Committee
on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, H.R. 8570, and in the
Senate Commerce Committee, S. 1739, which will authorize one-stop
inclusive tour charter trips; and
WHEREAS, only two islands in Hawaii have airports large
enough to accommodate large jets used in transportation between
Hawaii and the mainland; and
WHEREAS, Oahu will be the probable benefactor of such
one-stop inclusive tour charter trips; and
WHEREAS, it would be detrimental to increase visitor
congestion on Oahu and there is a need for greater distribution
of visitors to the neighbor islands,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the House Committee on Interstate and
Foreian Commerce and the Senate Commerce Committee give serious
consideration towards the rejection of H.R. 8570 and S. 1739.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of
this resolution to the following as testimony of the County's
opposition to those bills: Honorable Shunichi Kimura, Mayor,
County of Hawaii; Honorable John A. Burns, Governor of the
