HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 134 Draft 01 1972-1976 U County of Hawaii--State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, throughout the history of the Kingdom, Republic and Territory of Hawaii, Hawaii laid a clear claim to territorial jurisdiction over the channels and spaces betwen the various Hawaiian .Islands, and WHEREAS, the sea and its resources and the air space above it has in modern times become even more of a vital interest to the State of Hawaii, its people and its economy. WHEREAS, the United States delegation to the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference have, in the sessions until now, taken a position favoring a 12-mile or 200 foot deep limit to the terri- torial claims of all Archepelagos, and WHEREAS, this position disregards the interest of Hawaii in its vital channels: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THIS COUNCIL go on record as supporting the appointment of Representative Patsy T. Mink as a Delegate to the forthcoming sessions of the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference in order that Hawaii's position may be vigorously presented and its rights protected.
