Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 617, reports as follows:
Communication No. 617, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford, dated November 3, 2009,
authorizes the acceptance of a donation from Herbert T. and Mary Y. Matayoshi.
The Matayoshis' have graciously donated $50.00 to the Hawaii County Office of Aging in appreciation
of the Silver Bulletin newsletter that they enjoy reading. The funds will be used to subsidize the cost of
producing the Silver Bulletin, which provides individuals 60 years and older, and/or their caregivers
with monthly information on opportunities and services available within their communities.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the County,
may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(c), Hawaii County Code, any donation or gift
which does not fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance shall be submitted
to the Council by letter for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Herbert T. and Mary M. Matayoshi, 760 Onaha Street, Honolulu,
Hawaii 96816-4921, acknowledging this generous donation.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Comm. No. 617, and
recommends the acceptance of the donation.
