Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 176, reports as follows:
Bill No. 176, transmitted via Communication No. 620, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated
October 27, 2009, presents a Request for Change of District Classification by American Trading
Co., Ltd., at Waiakea, South Hilo, Hawaii, TMK: 2-2-032:024.
Bill No. 176 seeks to change the zoning from Limited Industrial - 20,000 square feet (ML-20)
to Industrial Commercial Mixed - 20,000 (MCX-20) for the parcel, which is approximately
52,457 square feet in size. The property is located along the northeastern corner of the
Kalanikoa Street/Kuawa Street intersection.
There was no public testimony on the matter. Sidney Fuke appeared before your Committee on
behalf of the applicant. Your Committee had no questions for Mr. Fuke.
Your Committee concurs with the Planning Commission and the Planning Director's favorable
recommendation for approval of the re-zoning request.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 176 and
recommends it pass first reading.
