COUNTY OF HAWAII - 'STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. 110
RESOLUTION REQUESTING LOCATION OF AN IRRADIATION PLANT ON
THE ISLAND OF HAWAII.-
WHEREAS, a request has been made for an appropriation
for the construction of an irradiation plant for the treatment
of a variety of agricultural products; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii continues to be the heaviest
producer of diversified crops, accounting for 55 per cent
(65.4 million pounds) of the 1964 total State production of
diversified crops; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii ranked first in 1964 in total harvested
acreage for each group of crops--vegetables and melons, fruits,
and miscellaneous crops; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii had the highest value of
total crop marketings, with about two-thirds of the State

total, and in 1964 ranked first~in value of miscellaneous crops
(coffee, macadamia nuts, and taro), first in value of fruit
marketings (producing four-fifths of the State's papayas),
and second in value of vegetables and melons.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
in and for the County of Hawaii that it does hereby.respectfully
request that the Island of Hawaii, the heaviest producer of
diversified crops in the State, be designated as the site for
the location of an irradiation plant for the treatment of
agricultural products.
BE IT .FURTHER' RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and she
is hereby directed to send copies of this resolution to the
Atomic Energy Commission.; the Governor of Hawaii, the Honorable
John A. Burns; the President of the Senate, the Honorable
