HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 161 Draft 01 1965 i COUNTY OF HAWAII - STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 161 RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PERMANENT MILITARY TRAINING FACILITY ON.THE.ISLAND OF HAWAII, STATE OF HAWAII. WHEREAS, Hawaii is strategically located and commands the operations of national interests in the Pacific Ocean Area; and WHEREAS, Hawaii serves as the command headquarters and base of operations for all of our Armed Forces in the entire Pacific Ocean Area; and c WHEREAS, the Pohakuloa Training Area has provided invaluable, unrestricted tactical training to keep our fighting men combat- ready; and WHEREAS, the Pohakuloa Training Area is the only unrestricted large-scale training facility in the State of Hawaii and in the entire Central Pacific Ocean Area under direct control of the United States; and WHEREAS, in the Pohakuloa Training. Area and adjacent areas are found vast areas with virtually every climatic and geographical conditions in the entire Pacific Ocean Area, whether it be frigid n w' polar or humid tropical conditions; and WHEREAS, the Pohakuloa Training Area has at its disposal. excellent logistical support facilities for unrestricted military operation whether it be the use of deep water harbor facilities or jet runways, and therefore, our men in the Armed Forces may be engaged in continuous and unrestricted combat training and remain combat-ready and available for immediate and direct transportation to wherever they may be needed at a moment's notice; G 4 ' i I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUP ERVISORS in and for the County of Hawaii that this Board of Supervisors places itself on record to make the Po hakuloa Training Area on the Island of Hawaii? State of Hawaii, a permanent installation where our fighting men may undergo continuous, unrestricted combat-ready preparedness and to move wherever they may be needed to serve our national interest, the cause of freedom, and world peace. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to the Honorable Robert S. McNamara, Secretary of Defense; the Honorable Hiram L. Fong, U. S. Senator; the Honorable Daniel K.'Inouye, U. S. Senator; the Honorable Spark M. Matsunaga,'Congressman; and the Honorable Patsy T. Mink, Congresswoman.
