RE'SOLUTION` N0. 167
A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ADVISORY
COMMITTEE ON'SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO THE CHAIRMAN AND
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
WHEREAS, there is a profound need for local government to
be constantly alert to the dynamic changes occurring in science
and technology throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Hawaii has seen fit

to appoint such a committee to advise him in these matters; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to attract science-oriented

industries to the Big Island to develop our scientific and
technological capabilities and to provide for the further
diversification of our economic base;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
in and for the County of Hawaii that there is hereby created
an Advisory Committee on Science and Technology to the Chairman
and Board of Supervisors, to be comprised of twelve (12) members
with the Director of the County Department of Economic Development
as ex-officio member and all other members to be appointed for
a two (2) year term by the County Chairman, with the approval
of the Board of Supervisors, and such committee shall:
(a) advise on the educational and training needs of
research and development firms;
(b) recommend legislative proposals for supporting
facilities such as. highways, water systems, etc.;

(c) perform in such a manner as to educate the public
with matters dealing with science and technology;
(d) actively seek out new research and development
endeavors to locate on the Big Island;

(e) provide counsel regarding the future social and
economic impact of technological developments
upon Hawaii's people;
(f) coordinate its activities with the Governor's
Advisory Committee on Science and Technology;
(g) study and develop a planned program to maximize the
development of Hawaii's scientific and technological
resources; and
(h) ,perform other such functions that may be relevant to
the intent of this resolution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Department of
Economic Development shall serve as administrative secretariat
to the Committee.
