GREENWELL. PARK ,WHEREAS :'the `'l'at-e ARTHUR L. GREENWELL is recognized by the;,fesidents'.of''the.community of Captain Cook, Hawaii, for his' outstanding contributions to .the welfare of the residents of South Kona and for his qualities of fairness and considerate- ness; and ' WHEREAS, the 'family of the late ARTHUR L. GREENWELL, the' present owners of Kealakekua Ranch, Ltd.,;has continued the heritage of civic concern and service by donating.a parcel.of land to the County of Hawaii for park purposes; and WHEREAS, the use of the name "Kea 1 akekua Park" for said ' park is by local custom a misnomer because the area generally 4/o 6~ C l. known as."Kealakekua" refers to an area' about two miles north. of the park; and WHEREAS, residents by local custom have called said park , "Captain Cook Park"'because it is in the area generally known QG<~ as "Captain Cook"; and C~ WHEREAS, the Captain Cook Community Association representing the area served by the park is acutely aware of the confusion, of names under the existing situation, the need to clarify the situation, and the desire to honor the memory of one of their most distinguished local residents; and WHEREAS, the Captain Cook Community Association recommends and requests that the. County,.park in South Kona, known as the "Kealakekua Park," be named "ARTHUR L. GREENWELL PARK"; and WHEREAS, there is no material objection why such change should not be made, t:c~....t...._....~ . NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS. in and'for the County of Hawaii that County of Hawaii Resolution No. 427, dated February 21, 1962, which names.that certain County park located in Captain Cook, South Kona, County and State of Hawaii, "Kealakekua Park" be and is hereby repealed, and the park forthwith be named the "ARTHUR L. GREENWELL PARK." BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is hereby directed to send a copy each of this resolution to Mrs: Arthur L. Greenwell; Mr. Masayuki Kawasaki, Secretary, Captain Cook Community Association; and the Department of Parks and Recreation, County of Hawaii.
